The railroad had a major part in the early development of Placer County starting in the late 1800s and especially the early 1900s. Southern Pacific moved their switching yard to Roseville in 1908. Many of us have several generations of family members who have worked at the Southern Pacific switching yard in Roseville. Over the years Placer County has grown into one of the most desirable areas in the Sacramento Region. We have some of the best schools, great restaurants, numerous parks, and tons of outdoor activities including skiing, boating, hiking, and biking.
